Take it for what it is: 4.5/5
This
game I was anticipating for a while. When I first saw the teaser back during
one of the Xbox showcases, I thought it was a new Alien game set in the Alien
universe. However, upon learning more and seeing more gameplay trailers, I saw
it was a new IP based on the H. R. Geiger artist who inspired the Alien themes.
Now, I
was somewhat confused about the gameplay at first. It starts weirdly (like anything
in this game is normal) and I was confused on what to do. However, I slowly
started to work my way around the environment, playing with the controls on the
controller and started to get immersed within this strange world. I will admit,
this game is not an open-world RPG/action fest. It is more like Myst (which I
will beat one of these days) with some light run and shoot gameplay.
The
puzzles and environments are amazing. I know some thought the puzzles too
simple, but I suck at puzzles and they were interesting and challenging for me.
I am sure if you play crazy puzzle games all the time you will probably have an
easier time.
The combat
however is different. There are different enemies that you need to learn how
they attack and fight. You are slow and clunky at combat, but this was their
design decision. I appreciate this run and shoot type gameplay that I started
to get used to over time. It can be slightly clunky at certain points, but
overall you will adjust if you practice.
Overall,
the game is a true gem in my book. People complain it is confusing, short,
clunky etc., but I am taking the game for what the game designers wanted to
achieve. It is a unique new crazy world with a Myst type environment and feel. I
really did enjoy my time with this and highly recommend anyone interested in
the trailers/gameplay on twitch to check it out.
