Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Review

Take it for what it is: 3.5/5

So I loved AC: Origins. I love a new take on a series and like it when developers take risks and do something different. I am actually enjoying the AC RPG trilogy and about to start Valhalla after this. I always encourage devs to take chances and try different things. This game I do however have mixed feelings on.

Most of my time, I enjoyed it. It is similar to Origins with the RPG mechanics. Way more grindy than Origins though, but I understand why because of their gear and abilities design. If you truly play this like an RPG it is not a bad experience. The gear and abilities can be tweaked to where you can feel like your character can be changed according to your playstyle.

The biggest gripe I do have with this, is the amount of quest that are just repeatable dailies like an MMO, the mercenary/wanted system is fun at first but does get annoying, and the assassinations are kind of annoying with most high-level boss type enemies are all just an action battle.

As for the quest, they are not bad, but I did enjoy Origins more. There were just a couple of repeatable quests in daily format for a piece of gear but most of the side quest and main story were awesome. This game, however, gets long winded and goes all out with a ton of quest that are pretty much like MMOs. Not bad for grinding and getting gear for the RPG mechanics, but again I get mixed feelings on these. Nice for getting gear/upgrading but they do break the immersion for a single player game with natural RPG progress.

Then, the mercenary system. It was cool and interesting at first, but holy cow it gets annoying later. So much so that they will randomly show up in the middle of a story quest and just disrupt the single player story flow. This is similar to Far Cry 5. I loved Far Cry 5 but again just getting interrupted while enjoying the story breaks the immersion. Again cool concept and nice to get gear but in AC: Odyssey, it gets even more frustrating later on. Also, be nice if I could at least assassinate them but at higher levels almost every one turns into a long fight that also gets longer as more mercenaries show up if you have even more wanted levels. More frustrating that fun at later levels with these mercenary/wanted systems.

Finally, I reiterate the assassinations. Origins you could still level pretty well and mostly still play it with assassinations. This game however I feel really handicapped You basically have to really tweak your gear to get enough assassination damage output to feel like an assassin. Especially annoying when you have a quest asking for you to be quiet when you end up going warrior build. I know it is more RPG like but it would have been nice to have you actually feel like an assassin. I highly highly recommend you get a secondary set of assassination only gear, yet... a mercenary might show up and boom you will have to fight him warrior skills and shift out of gear etc. Overall I tried to have a balanced set where I could kill most with assassinations and only a select few I would have to fight.

Overall, I have enjoyed my play through of AC Odyssey. I took it for what it was as a Greek open world RPG. As any RPG there is grind. When people talk about grind, it is an RPG…. That is the playstyle. I do not like to dog out a game if there is grind. The biggest gripe is the break in immersion because of some of these mechanics. If they tweaked the game to allow you to focus on the story more without the breaks in immersion and you go and do the side stuff like hunting mercenaries, killing high level bosses with one hit assassination shots, it really would have been much more enjoyable.

Well it has been a long time playing this and now on to Valhalla. Again, these are good games and I can see the time and effort put into these. This new AC RPG trilogy is so massive I am still in awe of the work of pulling this off. Anyone who craps on these games being dumb, terrible etc., go develop an open world game as large as these. Then come and complain to me. I did an entire year in college doing programming and just getting a simple security check on login with no security issues was freaking annoying. Why I do believe if you are interested in a lengthy Action RPG with a decent story and plenty to do. Pick this up. It is not as terrible as what others said. Worse comes to worse, as I always say, go watch some twitch streams and see the game in action if you would like.

Final note, I have finished it on Xbox but I have also played on PS, and on a nice mid-range PC. It works well everywhere and has gone through a breadth of patches.

Space Marine 2 Review

Take if for what it is: 3.5/5 This is another live service game. This is a difficult review for me since I love Space Marine and Space Marine 2 is an awesome game with Titus (one of my favorite protagonists), however, I have to be honest with this one at the same time. It also started out rough being more of a grind even on normal difficulty. It has gotten better and the story/single player campaign is still worthy of a playthrough. However, it is like Helldivers, Diablo IV and other live service games. The game can change at anytime and any moment. Right now, they decreased the grind and made it more bearable compared to before when it first released. It is another issue/problem with these live service games. They can be great or bad within just one-two weeks. I am putting this right here since it needs to be known about this game being more of a live service game than a single player/split multiplayer game like the original. I personally enjoy going through the single play...

RoboCop: Rogue City Review

Take if for what it is: 4/5 PC, 4.5 on consoles               This game you feel like RoboCop. That is mostly the review right there! However, there are some issues I had while playing the game that kept it from being a 5/5. Let’s start with all of the positives this game has going for it, which are many!               The story is awesome! It feels like it was done with the original writers of RoboCop 1 and 2 movies. You can take the story and characters and feel they are right at home in the RoboCop universe. The controls are spot on too and you feel like a walking giant stomping around the city and move like you’re about to bring scumbags to justice! The shooting is on point, and I love the few abilities you have that really make this game feel like this small developer team put all of their hearts and soul into it. It is also incredible this sm...

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Review

Take if for what it is: 4/5 A little janky and controller dead zones are being worked right now by the developer. However, if you can get by this, the game itself is amazing. I did not finish the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. back in the day but I still loved it. I went to MP gaming for a bit and never went back to it but once I saw the trailer to this game I knew I wanted to play it as soon as it was released. I knew it was going to have tons of bugs being such a large story driven open-world, but I am still enjoying it! The characters, the world, the enemies, everything in it is created and fine-tuned with a team that is passionate about the series and that they were able to finish this while being at war with Russia is just incredible. The PC edition and the Xbox edition have been running fine for me besides some performance issues which the dev has already started to fix. Again, wait to buy if you prefer to have a fully polished game or have a low-end PC since it does require...
